Tradition is the Future

Without the fertile soil of tradition we cannot plant deep roots and grow tall. Without the rock of tradition we are helpless rag dolls tossed about in the violent and never-ending rapids of ‘liquid modernity’.

Without tradition there is no undying fire for community to form around, no light to guide and give sure footing to future generations - leaving us to roam the darkened wastelands of individualism and the toxic consumerism which reduces every human activity and interaction to an exercise in self-gratification and objectification.

Without tradition we are doomed to a constant and ever increasing cycle of arbitrary revolutions, where no regime is ever capable of sustaining the revolutionary manifesto it ushers in when it overthrows the previous one because there is always a new group of revolutionaries already waiting in the wings to burn the new regime to the ground.

Tradition confers identity and liberates us from the tyranny of relativism and unmoored subjectivist self-creation. It is the sure and steady vessel which navigates the raging sea of ideology and fad, saving us from being ‘tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by trickery, craftiness and deceitful scheming.’

Tradition is the beautiful patrimony, the storehouse of wisdom which we are given the keys to, by those who came before us, and those who came before them.

It is the great meeting hall where we hear them speak deep wisdom that is impossible to learn in just one lifetime, and where we commune with them to build a meaningful future for those who will come after us.

Tradition is the future… for those willing to embrace, live, and safeguard it - and in doing so, they craft a legacy that will be received with profound gratitude by the next generation.
